Tips on Designing A Small Condo or Apartment

Here are a few fun ways to design a small place to add more depth, color and space to the area.

1. ADD CURVE.

Have you noticed how most apartments and condos have a smaller interior areas? Well design experts say that adding a chairs with a curve, unusually shaped rugs and round tables will definitely add to the idea of making the space look bigger and roomy.

2. ADD MORE LIGHT.

Some apartments have a wall-to-wall dark carpeting and by adding a light colored rug on top will give it a new updated and modern look.

3. CURTAINS ARE KEY.

Those apartment blinds can be so dull and boring. Adding a few curtains, especially hanging them from ceiling to floor will add a height to the look of the room. It will make the room much bigger than it is.

4. LAYERS ARE GOOD.

Some may actually believe that by adding layers may make the apartment bedroom look crowded. But, in fact, it is suggested that by adding more layers to the bed such as extra pillows and blankets can give the room more depth.

5. SMALLER COUCHES LOOK BIGGER

Adding a big over sized couch will crowd the living room and in fact, any over sized furniture piece will make the room look too crowded. Scale the furniture pieces with the dimensions of the room.

6. CLEAR IS BETTER.

The new modern touch are the clear or Lucite tables and chairs. These are definitely lighter to carry and will take up less space than the usually heavy office chairs or desks. It adds more openness to the look of the entire room.

7. POP UP BED

Modern day Murphy beds are a great addition to a small place. They look great when out or put away.

8. BRIGHTEN IT UP.

Try to add bright colors all over the place. And what better way to do it than to do with a few lights around the place. The warm glow adds a nice touch to the rest of pieces inside the room.

9. WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Some people need a bigger work area with an office desk and chair rather than a big dining area. And there are those who need a dining area rather than someplace to work. Make sure to pinpoint what it is that runs your day and incorporate that into the design of your condo or apartment.

10. FLOATING IS THE BEST TECHNIQUE.

Many modern day interior designers say that floating shelves add such a nice touch to the room whether it be the kitchen or living room. It is a nice contemporary touch.
